Meet the team - Allan Janjawi Regional Sales and Development Manager, Asia

Passionate about cars and innovation, Allan Janjawi is leading QBE Automotive Protection’s ambitious expansion into the Philippines and Vietnam, building on his success in Singapore.

A life-long lover of cars with 15 years of experience in insurance, Allan Janjawi has found his niche at QBE Automotive Protection. 

As Regional Sales and Development Manager for Asia, he’s helped grow the Automotive Protection business in Singapore – and has now been tasked with doing the same in two new areas. 

“My remit is to fully expand the business opportunities in Philippines and Vietnam via banks and other financial institutions as well as OEMs, dealer groups and distributors,” Allan explains. 

A trained physiotherapist, Allan was looking for a change. He got his start in insurance when he joined the Property and Casualty (P&C) market at a large US insurer.  

Nine years later, he made the move to QBE working with Major Trading Partners. He joined the Automotive Protection team in the summer of 2018. 

Improving the customer experience 

In line with QBE’s strategy, Allan tailors the proposition and his approach to local requirements. 

“The Philippines is a more mature market and car ownership is rapidly increasing, so it’s all about improving awareness of the products,” he says. 

“We have been making great inroads with the banking sector and hope to announce a couple of new partnerships soon. Once that awareness has increased, we’ll start to introduce other products into the market.” 

The Vietnamese automotive protection market is challenging as well, but Allan and the team have already seen that technology that can improve distribution efficiency and enhance customer experience will be an important asset. 

“Our competitors don’t have anything that compares to the QBE Danni digital platform, which allows us and our customers to manage policies and claims completely digitally. And with the data and insight we have, we can price risks accurately enough to deliver the pricing consistency our clients need,” says Allan. 

Ambitious growth targets 

He says that the variety and hands-on elements of the role make for an exciting change from the world of P&C insurance.  

“There’s no hiding place here and you need to be all over the detail all the time. You’re involved in every aspect of the policy and if things aren’t working well, you’ve got to find a solution.”  

As he works towards securing his qualifications from the Chartered Insurance Institute next year, Allan is focusing on making the Philippines and Vietnam integral territories in the wider QBE Automotive Protection family. 

“We’ve got really ambitious targets and they’re ambitious for a reason. We see huge opportunities and I expect the Philippines to become a major contributor for QBE Automotive Protection in Asia,” he says.
